TropicalEMed.com is a non-profit site run by the Darwin Emergency Physician Group to support clinicians in the Top End who provide emergency and acute care.
The contents are a collaborative collection of information gathered over many years of education and clinical practice.
The purpose of the site is to be an accessible resource to assist clinical decision making, to encourage professional development in emergency medicine and to be a resource on local practices and procedures.
Royal Darwin Hospital
Royal Darwin Hospital is the Northern Territory’s major referral hospital, receiving patients from the NT and the Eastern Kimberly region. Following the hospital’s response to the first Bali Bombing RDH became the base for the Australian Critical Care & Trauma Response Centre.
RDH Emergency Department
The ED treats 57,000 acute presentations per year with an emphasis on trauma, sepsis and tropical disease. 35% of our patients are of Aboriginal or Torres Straight Island descent and this group comprises about 60% of RDH admissions.
